While other domain registries seem only to happy to increase their prices this autumn it is refreshing to see that dotMobi won’t.
DotMobi have been offering registrars promotional pricing for most of this year, although they were meant to be halting the promotion during the autumn.
They have now revealed that they will be continuing with their promotional pricing until the end of the year.
Of course there is little or no guarantee that any promotions offered by a registry will be passed down the chain ie. to resellers or direct registrants.
As far as I remember(but I might be wrong) the reason why .mobi (and the other sTLDs) cannot raise their prices is because that clause is not in their contract, like it is for older gTLDs (I checked their icann agreement quickly, and could not find any clause about the possibility of raising prices every year… although there seems to be more flexibility in how they set prices for .mobi).
Furthermore, they already have a standard price of USD 12/yr… so I don´t really see a reason to justify an increase even if they were allowed to.
Of the ones that had the right to raise their prices, the only one who chose not to was .Biz (and I think the reason is obvious).

You could say the same thing about .info… though I suspect Afilias are trying to make it appear more valuable by not maintaining the low prices
Michele
Well… .info´s official price has always been quite high, but it always kicked in at renewal since registration price was kept very low through campaigns.
In more recent times however they seem to have understood the idea of making their TLD more valuable and are trying to create promotions that give an extra incentive to Registrars with higher renewal rates.

It’s going to take a long time for them to win over the public about the TLD’s value. The promotions they ran in the past made it far too popular with spammers and other scum

A good example of how short-term sales targets can screw you up for a very long time 😉
