As of 1600 UTC (4pm) on December 6, 2001, .XXX, “the progressive new home for adult entertainment online” has begun accepting domain registrations on a first come, first served basis. Now all members of the adult Sponsored Community can apply without pre-existing rights or qualifications, unlike in the previous launch periods.
The Sponsored Community includes providers of Adult Entertainment as well as talent, products or services to the adult industry.
For those who are not members of the adult Sponsored Community, accredited registrars will accept applications for non-resolving .XXX domain names so the registrant may protect their intellectual property for personal domain names, company domain names, product domain names, etc. that didn’t have prior qualifying rights under Sunrise A or Sunrise B.
Blacknight is one of a handful of registrars who are offering .XXX domains. Michele Neylon of Blacknight states: “We at Blacknight are very passionate about providing the latest Internet technology to our customers. . The way that .XXX is innovative isn’t something everyone can talk about in polite company and that makes it all the more interesting to be among the few registrars offering .XXX domains.”
Those who are worried that .XXX domains will be a magnet for malware and mayhem can rest easy as every website in the .XXX domain is scanned daily by McAfee for Malware and to ensure consumer standards are constantly adhered to The Internet Foundation for Online Responsibility (IFFOR) will also monitor websites.
.XXX domains will create a clearly signposted place where adult entertainment can be accessed and allow Internet users to have a clear idea of the nature of the site before they click, rather than after.
In planning the .XXX launch ICM Registry has truly provided something for everyone as .XXX even allows Internet users to filter out unwanted .XXX content through its unique MetaCert Tagging system.
