Nominet are involved in several new TLDs, but they are going to be running the new TLDs for Wales.
Earlier today Nominet confirmed the launch date for both .cymru and .wales – September 1st 2014.
The launch will be done in phases with general availability (GA) being planned for Q1 2015
Here’s the launch phases:
One of the challenges Nominet faces with .wales and .cymru is the lack of ICANN accredited registrars in Wales. While there are several thousand companies accredited for the *.uk ccTLD only a small fraction of them are ICANN accredited registrars. As a result of this Nominet themselves has become an ICANN accredited registrar in order to be able to offer .wales and cymru via its existing ccTLD registrars who aren’t ICANN accredited. Nominet’s registrar is a separate corporate entity from Nominet – Nominet Registrar Services Ltd, which it setup back in 2012.
