While August might be a slightly quieter time of the year in some quarters, it most definitely has not been for either ICANN or NTIA.
Earlier today NTIA formally notified ICANN that it had accepted the IANA transition plans and that it would (unless something terrible happened) let the contract expire on October 1st.

It’s short and to the point.
Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information and NTIA Administrator Lawrence E. Strickling goes into a bit more detail on what’s been happening over the last few weeks in a post on the NTIA site.
So as far as ICANN and NTIA are concerned the transition can proceed.
While that news is obviously welcome in some circles, Cruz and Co are still doing their best to block any changes on The Hill. How effective their blocking measures will be remains to be seen.
I suspect that Cruz and Co will be issuing a press release in the next couple of days on the subject…
