IEDR will be releasing a small number of previously reserved domain names.
In common with many domain registries, the .ie ccTLD has a number of domains that are reserved for a variety of reasons. In the case of .ie one of the legacy policies was a restriction on registering domain names that corresponded to top level domains. While that might have made sense when there was a very small number of top level domains it became a bit silly with the launch of over 1000 new top level domains, many of which corresponded to names that had already been registered in the .ie namespace.
The names that are being released are:
- aero.ie
- post.ie
- coop.ie
As with previous releases there’ll be 3 phases:
- Sunrise for trademark holders ((it’ll need to be an exact match) which will run from May 8th 2019 until June 6th 2019
- Landrush 19 July onwards
- General Availability October 1st
Of course if the domains are registered during sunrise then there won’t be any need for the other two release phases.
If there are two or more applicants for one of the domains this will trigger an auction on the Sedo platform.
Pricing will vary by registrar, but the “direct” pricing from IEDR will be as follows:
- Sunrise €499 ex-VAT
- Landrush €199 ex-VAT
- General Availability €62 ex-VAT
