While the most recent ICANN public meeting only drew to a close at the end of last week the details of the next meeting are already available.
ICANN’s next public meeting will be ICANN 66 which will run from November 2nd to November 8th in Montreal and it is also the organisation’s AGM.
It’ll be a bigger meeting than the last one and it’ll probably also have quite a bit more pomp and frills, as AGMs generally tend to.
The event schedule won’t be available until a few weeks in advance, but in the interim you can register to attend as well as find hotels (aff) within walking distance of the venue.
The last time ICANN held a public meeting in Canada was in Toronto several years ago when the host was CIRA. This time round, however, the host appears to be an organisation created solely to host the ICANN meeting, which is a bit “different”:
ICANN has entrusted RENDEZ-VOUS MONTREAL 66 as the official host of the conference. RVM 66 is a non-profit organization created to increase the impact of the 66th ICANN Meeting. As such, its mandate is to obtain logistical, financial or technological support from public or private partners, to organize and fund activities highlighting the local, regional and national know-how and culture.
RVM 66 is also committed to support ICANN in any aspect where RVM 66 can be useful.
RVM 66 has a site which explains very briefly (in French) who is behind it and why the ICANN meeting matters. As they rightly point out the event will attract over 2000 attendees, so that is a lot of spend between hotels, bars, restaurants etc.
