The .ie ccTLD registry aka IEDR are hiring. (They’ve recently rebranded to “.ie” and changed their domain over to weare.ie from iedr.ie but I honestly can’t see that sticking with a lot of us, without even considering the SEO implications etc.,)
They’ve got an opening in their team for a “Policy and Compliance Officer”, which would combine dealing with policy issues as well as working on things like data protection and ISO compliance.
In recent years the company that runs the .ie registry has invested more in its policy development processes and there have been a number of changes to the .ie ccTLD’s policies coming out of the Policy Advisory Committee (PAC). The PAC membership covers the broader Irish internet and business community with members coming from a fairly mixed range of backgrounds. Anyone who ends up in the role would have to deal with both the .ie ccTLD’s own policies, as well as a lot of the stuff coming out of both Dublin and Brussels that has an impact on internet policy and overall governance.
A few highlights from the role:
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Policy and Compliance Officer will be the subject matter expert on .ie domain policy and compliance. This person will be responsible for handling data protection and GDPR compliance matters, liaising with relevant regulatory bodies and assisting the .IE Operations Team as an escalated point of contact for queries relating to .ie policies, domain disputes, or complaints. This person will also be responsible for coordinating the operations of the multi-stakeholder Policy Advisory Committee.
The kind of person this role would suit would be someone with a passion for policy and legal topics. (Yeah, they do exist!) They’d also need to be able to engage with both internal and external stakeholders as well as interacting with the global internet governance community:
• Be a subject matter expert on .ie policies, and be the escalated point of contact for policy queries, .ie domain registration dispute resolution services, and liaison with regulatory bodies,
• Advise the Senior Management team on upcoming national/international regulatory and legislative changes which may impact .ie policy, and develop responses to emerging best practices within the domain industry with regard to policy and compliance matters,
• Act as the Secretariat to the multi-stakeholder Policy Advisory Committee, working closely with a variety of stakeholders including our reseller channel partners, cybersecurity/IT and legal professionals, government agencies, trade associations and industry representative organisations, amongst others,
• Coordinate the implementation of policy changes and related projects, by proactively working with internal teams and external stakeholders,
• Coordinate .IE’s compliance with its legal and regulatory obligations, including applicable data protection laws. As part of this work, you will handle data protection impact assessments, access requests from law enforcement agencies and data subjects, in addition to ensuring that all aspects of .IE’s operations continue to incorporate the principles of the EU General Data Protection Regulation,
• Conduct internal compliance auditing checks on .IE operations for adherence to .ie policies,
• Conduct company-wide training on policy and data protection matters on a routine basis,
• Be an advocate for the .ie namespace.
The role is being advertised as being Dublin based and while doing it remotely might be viable for the next few months whoever gets the gig would need to be spending a reasonable amount of time there. Part of the role is acting as secretariat for the PAC and its face to face meetings are always in Dublin.
