ICANN 70 Confirmed as Virtual

It’s looking less and less likely that there will be any big “in person”” events in 2021 with more and more event organisers announcing their plans to hold their events online.

ICANN has announced that ICANN 70 which was meant to be held in Cancún, Mexico is being held online, though it will be scheduled on the Mexican city’s timezone.

You can register for the event here.

Other organisations, like RIPE, made their plans clear before the end of 2020, with RIPE announcing that their meeting next May would be online.

With vaccines now available I suspect that many people will now be waiting until they’ve been inoculated before committing to attending events in person. However the timing around vaccine rollouts varies by country and it looks like it’ll be at least this autumn before critical mass will be reached in most countries.
