Candidates for Nominet Elections Announced

Nominet logo (2015)

This year’s Nominet Board elections will be for two non-executive directors (NEDs). As usual the seats are open to anyone and they don’t need to be a Nominet member to be elected, though only Nominet members get to vote.

The full slate of nominees was announced earlier this afternoon. With 6 candidates running for 2 seats this will be one of the more hotly contested elections in a long time. The candidate breakdown and profile is quite different from previous years but how things will pan out is anyone’s guess at this juncture.

Here’s the candidate list:

  • Ashley La Bolle
  • David Thornton
  • Jim Davies
  • Liz Williams
  • Simon Blacker
  • Stephen Yarrow

Some of those names are probably familiar to anyone who has been actively engaged in Nominet or country code domains over the last few years, while others probably aren’t that well known. I’d recommend reading the candidate statements as well as those from the people who nominated them. They’re quite enlightening and can definitely help you to get to know the candidates and how they are perceived.

The voting will open on October 27th.

Traditionally the voter turnout has been pretty low, though I suspect it could be higher this year.

Voting rights are based on the number of domains each member has linked to their membership with caps in place for the larger companies.

Disclosure: I nominated David Thornton again.
