EURid has won the tender bid to operate the .eu domain for a further 5 years until 2027.
The official announcement was made by the Belgium based company on Monday, though they’d informally announced that they had the winning bid at the Web Awards last Friday night.

The contract to run the .eu domain name registry is awarded by the European Commission and is open for tender every few years, as the contract is awarded in 5 year slots. The bidding process this time has been going on since 2020, though the actual tender process had to be restarted due to issues with the EC.
It’s quite a quirky contract, as it has to be run by a non-for-profit entity and whoever wins the contract has to operate under contract to the European Commission. Requirements in there include supporting ALL the EU languages and a bunch of other things that a commercial entity would struggle with.
