The Number Resource Organization Number Council (NRO NC) plays an important role within internet governance, as it carries out a number of key functions:
- Overseeing the Global Policy Development Process
- Providing recommendations to the ICANN Board concerning the recognition of new RIRs
- Nominating individuals to serve in the ASO’s two seats (Seat 9 and Seat 10) on the ICANN Board of Directors and other ICANN bodies.
- Advising the ICANN Board on Internet number resource allocation policy, in conjunction with the RIRs
- Developing procedures for conducting business in support of their responsibilities, in particular, the appointment of an ASO AC Chair and definition of the Chair’s responsibilities
The NRO NC is the ASO (address support organization) – remember that the second “N” in ICANN is “numbers”.
The RIPE region gets to choose 3 members, with 2 being elected by RIPE members and the 3rd being selected by the RIPE NCC Board.
This time round there is one vacancy available for a 3 year term starting January 2025.
The nomination period runs from now until 30th September.
In order to be eligible for election you need to reside in the RIPE NCC service region and have participated in at least 3 RIPE meetings.
