ICANN CEO Göran Marby will be speaking at WHD Global next month in Germany.
Marby is scheduled to speak on Wednesday March 29th.
The title of his talk suggests that he’ll be trying to get more of the hosting community to engage with ICANN: “Shape the future of the Internet: Your business depends on it.”
From the announcement this morning:
ICANN CEO Göran Marby to stand in front of the WHD.global community, to engage us on how to shape the Internet of tomorrow
ICANN’s role in managing parts of the Internet has changed dramatically since the U.S. has relinquished its advisory role. Since taking over as ICANN CEO, Göran Marby has gone to work on ensuring that ICANN fulfills its new responsibities to the Internet. Now he’s ready to stand in front of the Internet thought leaders at WHD.global and explain to them what happened, and how Internet leaders can help shape what happens next.Marby will explain who will be driving ICANN’s future policies. Will the hosting industry have a voice? What’s the impact on the domain business? Where is the accountability for ICANN and the technical infrastructure organizations? How will these changes affect your bottom line? Be there when Göran Marby stands in front of the WHD.global community, and engages us to help shape the Internet of tomorrow.
It’s interesting to see ICANN trying to be a little bit more pro-active in its engagement with the hosting providers, as they are a group that isn’t directly represented at ICANN in many cases. While some hosts, including ourselves, are also registrars there are many who aren’t, so they often don’t have a direct voice at ICANN or elsewhere within the internet governance and policy space, though they can if they are members of organisations like i2Coalition.
