The European Union has announced sanctions against both Russia Today (RT) and Sputnik.
The official announcement makes it very clear that the sanctions apply to online as well as more traditional broadcast media:
The sanctions cover all means for transmission and distribution, such as via cable, satellite, IPTV, platforms, websites and apps
The sanctions are directly binding on all member states of the EU immediately.
The full text of the sanction is available here (PDF). It applies to:
- RT – Russia Today English
- RT – Russia Today UK
- RT – Russia Today Germany
- RT – Russia Today France
- RT – Russia Today Spanish
- Sputnik
RT was already being pulled from a number of tv services in the last few days, but the wording of this suggests that the channel’s online presence should be blocked in all EU member states shortly.
