Sunrise domain name registrations used to be a good way for both registries and registrars to get sales and revenue. With the advent of new TLDs however the numbers for most extensions have been lacklustre, with registries being “lucky” to get a couple of hundred domains in the sunrise period (on average)
However one could also argue that some of the objectively “better” domain extensions are only coming to market now.
Is this the case for .online?
While it’s hard to know the sunrise numbers are pretty impressive with 775, which makes it the 6th overall in terms of volume.
The .online domain extension will go into “general availability” on August 26th 2015 and will be available from most registrars (including Blacknight)
