In the last few days, on July 1st, AFNIC, the registry for .fr, relaxed some of its domain registrati0n rules in accordance with the French government’s wishes.
The more relaxed rules meant that a large number of reserved names became available for registration on July 1st on a “first come, first served” basis.
Daily lists of registered domains are now also being published on the registry’s site
I caught up with AFNIC’s CEO Mathieu Weill yesterday evening who seemed to be very happy with how the release had gone:
We are pleased to see that the number of requests is now above 4000 (domain names), and that most requests are for generic words such as webmaster.fr, internet.fr, emploi.fr or entreprise.fr
So will we see these domains being developed, or are they likely to end up on one of the domain name marketplaces? I guess we’ll know in a few weeks.
