Philip Corwin from the Internet Commerce Association has published an email from Fadi Chehadé that explains this week's "secret" meeting in Brussels. Over the past week or so there had been rumours of a meeting being held in Brussels about the Trademark Clearing House. However it wasn't clear to many either who was organising the meeting, who had been invited or what the … [Read more...] about Fadi Chehadé Explains Brussels Meeting

CNNIC To Implement Alternative WHOIS
CNNIC, the .cn registry, are to implement an alternative to traditional whois. According to an announcement by ICANN's Kurt Pritz, the Chinese organisation will be implementing a "RESTful" Whois server implementation. This is based on ongoing work within the IETF in the rather oddly named "weirds" project. Of course "weirds" is actually an acronym for: "Web Extensible … [Read more...] about CNNIC To Implement Alternative WHOIS
Cayman Islands Joins GAC
Seemingly the Cayman Islands has appointed a representative to ICANN's GAC - where all the governments hang out. Their appointee, who should be attending the meeting in Toronto next week, is Mr Samuel Rose. Mr Rose hails from the Caymans' Ministry of Finance, Tourism and Development. This appointment might have something to do with Frank Schilling's Uniregistry being … [Read more...] about Cayman Islands Joins GAC

Strickling To Crocker – ICANN Needs To Do More To Protect IP
The US Department of Commerce's Larry Strickling has written to ICANN again. This time it's about new TLDs, the RAA, law enforcement and trademark protections in new TLDs. ICANN Advertising For Director of gTLD Registry Services
ICANN currently has a number of job vacancies open, which isn't that surprising for an organisation of its size. Nominet Sucking Up To Law Enforcement With New Proposals?
Nominet, the registry for *.uk, has opened a public consultation on the re-introduction of .uk domain names ie. domains directly under .uk such as businessname.uk The proposals from the registry, however, sound like they're heavily influenced by the law enforcement "asks" during the current RAA negotiations. They also ignore the recent Article 29 Working Party letter … [Read more...] about Nominet Sucking Up To Law Enforcement With New Proposals?
